David's Experiment

I've been wanting to get into real blogging for a while. I've been using Twitter for a while, but sometimes 140 characters isn't enough.

There are hundreds of blogs out there, but they all seem to me like a million monkeys on a million typewriters. Many of them seem to be just talking at (very few or more often no) people instead of with them.

This is a Bliki. It's a combination of a blog and a wiki. It organizes posts in a standard blog format and has comments, but the entries are editable by anyone. I hope no one abuses this privilege, though. ;-)

I'll try to keep things loose and informal here. I'd like this place to be like a party where some people can just hang out and have some interesting discussion.

About Me: My name is David Delony. I have a degree in communication from CSU East Bay. I have a ridiculously wide array of interests, from computers to politics to journalism.

I've been playing around with Syllable. It's a new open source operating system that's not Linux or BSD.

Here are some of the things it has going for it:

  • It's very fast. The live CD boots up in about 30 seconds and the system is very responsive. (On the other hand, it's very slow when I try to run it in a VM.)
  • It's small. The extracted LiveCD distro is only 150MB. It's way smaller than Ubuntu.
