How to format my macbook HD and start from scratch? I'm planning on buying a brand new Tiger OS install cd/dvd. For two laptops, will I need the single one or the family version?

A:To have a legally installed version of Mac OS X on the two systems depends on what the scenario is. You can only use the Family Pack version if you are installing in more than one computer in the same household. It is not intended for business. For business, or for systems not in the same household you have to purchase one DVD per system.

Truthfully, nobody might notice if you use one DVD for both systems, but there may be licensing issues if something goes wrong. Here's some information from Apple's website:

  • Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same household. By "household" we mean a person or persons who share the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium, but shall also extend to student members who are primary residents of that household but residing at a separate on-campus location. This license does not extend to business or commercial users.
