When ever I find myself in the possition you describe, I have to look at myself and recognize it's me. I have not become what I need to be to attract ths things I want. It could be my smila, storyes I tell, my presence. I have choosen to reinvent myself to get what i want. And, this has included excluding some freinds in place of others.

Oh, how I wish you were here!

I would most certainly take lessons from you. I am going to be taking classes at the community college in the fall, but after having learned guitar from a personal tutor, I get the feeling that the experience will be much less personal. I am still excited. Opera vocals... who can resist it?

Irony, I just heard a story

about Beethoven's 5th helping someone with Alzheimers. It was amazing, I'll ruin it trying to summarize. I'll shoot the person's story on video so you get a sense of how much it effected him.

I was down at Stanford University for a lecture on music where I heard one definition

"music is a drug we use to self-medicate our moods with incredible accuracy and control" AC/DC helps get me up, although lately Carrie Underwood's Last Name has been my jogging song (alternating with Smashmouth walking on the moon). I've grown up on jazz, classical (from old cartoons) and motown (living close to Detroit). "Flight of the Valkyrie" is still the "Kill the wabbit song" Beethoven's 9th, Ode to Joy had a very special thing - I'll talk about it later.

in my experience

I agree with Cynthia's thoughts on classical music and it's benefits. I had the same experience teaching piano. Adults whom I could tell would get so much out of it, would try to take piano and not have time to practice and quit- thinking that they didn't have talent. I saw potential in each one. Cynthia, I believe you and I have 2 special former students in common. Kids were always easier to mold and shape and guide towards a lifetime love of classical music. But I was always sad to see an adult who simply couldn't move forward with it. Of course, I understand about time constraints and other responsibilities. As a teacher, I often didn't practice enough unless I had a paid gig. Somehow, I think that the benefits are so great, that one should stick with it in some capacity even when no practice time is feasible. If only listening to classical music and educating yourself regarding the masters when you are unable to physically practice as life gets in the way.

help me out here. all of us, have the passion to just live quietly and breathe with our instrument. would not it be bliss to perform all the days of your life playing classical music and debuting yourself as a concert artist without worrying about your finances? with this, every musician has to worry about the means to survive for a living. we need to tap into the entrepreneur within us and focus on our strong points and work on the qualities that we lack as business people. I JUST WORRY THAT I MIGHT START A BUSINESS WHICH I DON'T REALLY LIKE DOING. I want my business to be music: music teaching, performing, recording, etc.

Hello Cynthia, I agree with you. Once I applied the LAW to my own life - restructuring so that I could spend more time doing what I love: teaching/ writing about yoga and meditation, my life became much much happier. I hope you continue to enjoy abundance as well as happiness/contentment.

Music is the soul of the people

That is an old Puerto Rican saying. People should be better translated as Nation, but it will do for now.

Music shows the and expresses the feelings and the soul of the composer, and the artist.
