She was Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose’s daughter. Hatshepsut married her half-brother, King Thutmose II and Thutmose II died unexpectedly about 1479 B.C. Hatshepsut's stepson, THUTMOSE III, was to inherit the throne, but because he was too young to rule, Hatshepsut served as temporary ruler. Tuthmosis, Thothmes, or Thutmose, III who reigned about 1479-1425 B.C. is thought of as one of the greatest of all Pharoahs. Thutmose succeeded his father, Thutmose II, but was kept out of power by his stepmother, Queen Hatshepsut. After Hatshepsut died, Thutmose III ordered her name erased from monuments and statues. Tuthmosis, or Thutmose, I who was king of Egypt from 1504-1492 BC or the early 18th Dynasty, was successor of his brother-in-law, Amenhotep I. He was a noted soldier and a commander of armed forces, Thutmose I reconquered the Nubians of northern Africa and later advanced into Asia as far as the Euphrates River. The remainder of his reign was devoted to various building projects. Akhenaten ruled ancient Egypt from about 1353 to 1336 B.C. His wife was Queen Nefertiti. Akhenaten was a religious reformer, devoted solely to the worship of Aten, a sun god. He abandoned the state religion of Amun and changed his name from Amenhotep, his father's name, to Akhenaten. He attacked the old religion, removed the name of Amun from monuments, and closed Amun's temples. Akhenaten built a new capital at Amarna and called it Akhetaten, meaning horizon of Aten. After his death, many later pharaohs tried to destroy Akhenaten's monuments.
