help me out here. all of us, have the passion to just live quietly and breathe with our instrument. would not it be bliss to perform all the days of your life playing classical music and debuting yourself as a concert artist without worrying about your finances? with this, every musician has to worry about the means to survive for a living. we need to tap into the entrepreneur within us and focus on our strong points and work on the qualities that we lack as business people. I JUST WORRY THAT I MIGHT START A BUSINESS WHICH I DON'T REALLY LIKE DOING. I want my business to be music: music teaching, performing, recording, etc. i totally agree with everything you said.

Welcome to the real world. The days of being insulated from business are over; at least until we get successful enough to hire someone to nurture the business aspects, or outsource it. The big recording companies are going down and never had much interest in classical music in any case. We need to learn from all the successful and not-so-successful indie bands and work together to form our own performing and teaching networks. The ideal? Find a business person who really understands, and teach them to love classical music and want to be a part of it, and involve them in the business. As for not wanting to start a business, I can remember plenty of hours of playing scales which I didn't really want to do, but I'm grateful I did it now. We can't afford to be unaware of what it takes to run a business. In my classical music FAQ, I say that you're not a professional if you get paid; you're a professional if you understand that this is a business undertaking and act accordingly.
