Spoke at Pune PLUG Mash

On 13 Oct '07, I represented ThoughtWorks for the first time.

It was at the Pune PLUG Mash.

Chris, Ketan and I put up a nice hour-long talk about

  1. who we (ThoughtWorks) are and what we do
  2. Agile -- Agile Manifesto, some Agile practices, pics of ThoughtWorks offices and TWers at work (and play!)... in other words, a good selling job! Wink
  3. how Agile and OSS have synergies in culture, values, and practices, and how they are slowly coming together,
  4. the trends we see these days in technology... monolithic systems to composed apps, WS-* to REST, progressive enhancement, mashups, etc

We had a good enough audience size (basically, all those who'd come for the event) because ours was the first talk of the day, right after Mashup ideas were discussed.

A few people put up some questions during the session but I feel the audience could have been more participative. There was a lot of head-nodding though. Smile Later in the day, Chris got a few curious inquirers about Agile and Scrum.

We also presented two projects for the event -- Sachin talked about a libjingle thing and Shodhan presented Swiby. (I'll blog more about Swiby later.)

On Day 1, Shodhan, Steve and I triple-paired and got a few stories working for Swiby. Pretty neat stuff we managed to do, actually.

A thing that I noticed about the event was that we didn't get a lot of opportunities to mingle with a lot of folks... they quickly formed teams and got going on their projects. I guess a Barcamp is better for networking at a broader level Question.

But overall, I think ThoughtWorks managed to make a good impression. (On a personal note, I wish I had a TW t-shirt to wear to the event... I haven't yet gotten mine!!!! Sad)
